Canadian Coffee

  • How about a literally eye-opening way to experience Canadian whisky?
  • Think of this as a fun way to enhance occasions when a warming cup of coffee is called for — say, after a game of shinny, or a big weekend or holiday breakfast.
  • Why do whisky and coffee work well together? The caramel and toffee notes of J.P. Wiser’s 10 Year Old soften the bitterness of brewed coffee, while the whisky complements the roasted and creamy aromas in the drink.

Variations & tips

  • To explore different ways of enjoying this drink, switch up your choice of coffee — for example, for a more roasted flavour, use dark roast; for a fruitier version, a light roast.
  • Many people find that hot drinks need more sweetness for flavour balance. Consider adding extra maple syrup to a Canadian Coffee (and/or sugar — possibly more than you put in your everyday cup of joe).
  • For a bit of extra flair, try topping your Canadian Coffee with whipped cream.
  • A Canadian Coffee looks great in a heatproof glass or cup rather than an ordinary mug. (Don’t add hot liquid to a regular glass; it could shatter.)
